Want to share a plate with your furry or feathered friend this Thanksgiving? Sharing is allowed and encouraged, but there are some rules you should know. Here's your guide as to what your pets can and can't have!

Please note that all foods listed should only be offered in their PLAIN form, without any extra seasonings, oils, butter or sugar. For foods that require cooking, we recommend boiling, steaming or using canned versions. Canned foods may need to be rinsed due to excess salt and you should opt for things canned in water, not syrup or oil!

Your pets CAN have:

  • sweet potatoes
  • corn (not on the cob)than
  • green beans
  • cranberries
  • pumpkin
  • apples (no core or seeds)
  • butternut squash
  • turkey, duck or chicken (no seasoning, skin or bones)

Your pets CANNOT have:

  • stuffing
  • mashed potatoes
  • gravy
  • garlic
  • mushrooms
  • pecans
  • turkey bones
  • sweets
  • scallions or chives

Please note that dogs, cats and other omnivores can eat any of the foods listed - parrots can also eat all items above but meat should be kept to a minimum. Carnivorous pets such as ferrets should only be offered meats (unseasoned, plain and de-boned) and herbivores such as guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters should only be offered fruits and vegetables - no meat! Just to reiterate: please only feed cooked, plain, unseasoned versions of these foods.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
